March 21, 2012 - Mosaic Stairway and Sundial, SF

I just found about this mosaic stairway recently on Huffington Post. They had an article about the coolest stairways in the world. When this one popped up i couldn't believe i didn't know about it. After a job i called my friend Jim (he loves to hike and explore as much as i do) and we did SF tourist things!

This one was well worth the effort and i have never seen anything like it.

First view from street.

The bottom is the ocean floor and then as you go up it becomes the land, the sky and then the moon and sun.

The landscape around it is being renovated. The bottom half is beautiful gardens while the top is still ice plant (a South African plant that has taken over the fog zones of the west coast)

That's a river!

Once you climb the mosaic stairs you cross the road that circles Golden Gate Heights Park. It is basically a high hill. After crossing the road you have to climb another huge stairway to get to the top. The green belt is Golden Gate Park with the Marin Headlands in the horizon. Due to the fog you can't see the Golden Gate Bridge.

Looking toward downtown.

Looking toward Sutro Mountain.

The building in the trees is the new DeYoung Museum.

Looking toward the ocean. It starts where the houses end.

Looking toward Twin Peaks.

This sundial is what's left of a racetrack that was decommissioned in the 30s i believe. Now it's just another neighborhood in SF but this fairly unknown little park is still here.

BLOG finally up (at least for 2011)

Welcome to my BLOG!

Thought i'd get this up by New Year's. No such luck :)

This blog is primarily to allow friends and family to see all the pictures i have taken.

I've taken too many to send some here and send some there.

So here they all are. I have completed 2011. Actually i just discovered i have not. Still more hikes and L.A.

I will be adding more going backwards, so next 2010, then 2009 etc.

I will add current ones as well but so far this year has not been as exciting as last year!

I've added text to the best of my memory of what photos are and links where helpful.

If you have any questions or want to send me some so i can add them, please do!

Also i'm sorry if the amount of photos is overwhelming, but i figured i'd just throw all of them out there

since they all turned out well!
