November 24, 2011 - PHOENIX TRIP - Arizona

Day 5 of the Phoenix trip took us from the Grand Canyon and ultimately to our destination --- PHOENIX, AZ!!!

Strange clouds south of the Grand Canyon on our way to Flagstaff, AZ.

Humphrey's peak. This time from the northwest. I just saw this peak in September coming from New Mexico.

After we went through Flagstaff and its irritating irrational detours through construction, we took the side road to Sedona, AZ. I'd never been here before and immediately fell in love with the landscape. I can see what all the raving has been about. We just breezed through. These pictures don't do it justice. Have to go back and stay a while.

and these of the Sedona area are from Ayme

Once you loop back to the freeway, you go a couple exits and you can see this! Read about it on the way and since it was right next to I-17, it made a great stop.

Basically it's a cliff dwelling. Not as magnificent as Mesa Verde N.P. but very cool nonetheless.

We finally made it to Jojo's house for Thanksgiving. Ayme's brother, wife and kids, sister and cousins were there. Unfortunately her mom couldn't make it due to her step-dad being in the hospital. The whole point of the reunion was to celebrate her mom's 80th birthday. Well, disappointing, but still it was a fun time.

And finally THANKSGIVING! From left to right - Ayme's Aunt Jojo and cousins Paul and Lyle.

To the left is yours truly and Ayme's cousin Cat (Catherine?)

Ayme's niece and nephew, Isabel and Griffon (probably spelling all these names wrong!)

Ayme's brother - Gareth and sister - Roxanne.

Aunt Jojo doesn't like to smile for photos.

L to R - Gareth's wife, Teddi with Jojo, Griffon, Roxanne, Gareth, Isabel and Ayme. Everyone else refused to be in the photo!

Not only was it Ayme's mother's birthday, but her Aunt Jojo had a birthday very soon as well. Her kids got her the coolest birthday cake. The candle on this cake was new to me.
