September 7, 2011 - NEBRASKA TRIP - Nebraska

I needed a day to just chill out. Tired of driving and visiting places. I stayed at my parent's house. I grew up on this property since i was 3 years old, however the current house was built after i left. I spent the day taking pictures of their 48 acre "paradise" and walked the half a mile to the Loup River.

They built this house in 1995 after the old one had a fire.

The old garage shed. One of the few remaining original buildings that i remember.

This was dad's shop. It is also one of the only remaining buildings from when they bought the place in 1969.

Still a mess inside!

Those are hemp plants. The plentiful rain made them several feet high! I had never seen them get that tall. Wild hemp has always been common around these parts.

The remains of the garden.

The sheds and the new barn. I miss the old red one :{

The herd of horses they board on their property.

The old windmill looking pretty sad these days. It once functioned and looked like new!

The grove of cottonwoods on the east side of the place. I love theses trees. Lots of good memories spending time there.

The hemp smelled sweet. It was a good year!

Horsies!

Goldrod, the state flower having a good year as well.

Out in the pastures, south of the house. All these trees have grown up since i lived there and the ones i remember are now gone. I always stroll around these parts when i return to see how things change.

Looking back at the house and barn.

The house.

After you cross the fence into a neighbor's pasture it is evident the differences between my parent's horse grazed property and the neighboring cattle grazed pasture.

The sandpit as we called it. Spent many days around this spot. Unfortunately it is mucked with cow dung and actually kinda nasty. No swimming!

The Loup River. The river has moved northward over the years taking out a few groves of trees. It is very close to taking the sandpit with it these days.

This shows the sandpit on the left and the river on the right. They have never been so close. Efforts to stall the inevitable northward takeover the river have left a bank of concrete.

Back to the house on the dirt road.

The hemp is even taller than the corn this year!

Back to Shady Lake Road. My parent's house is behind the trees on the right.

Later i went to Schuyler, NE to visit my cousin Kristina. She now has four kids.

Dakota, some neighbor kid, Kristina holding Maria. Next to her Sabrina and girl in blue is Samantha.
